January 6, 2020: Today, Cayman Airways flight KX880 destined to La Ceiba, Honduras, with connecting service to Roatan, returned to Grand Cayman due to poor weather conditions at La Ceiba’s Goloson International Airport, and Roatan's Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport, preventing its ability to land safely.
Prior to the aircraft’s departure from Owen Roberts International Airport on Grand Cayman, the weather was forecast to be above the minimum requirements for landing, but upon nearing Honduras, deteriorating weather conditions resulted in the runways at both of the noted airports being below required landing minimums.
Passengers are being re-protected on a recovery flight, KX3880, departing Grand Cayman on Tuesday January 7, 2020 at 7:30am, arriving in La Ceiba at 7:55am (La Ceiba time). The flight then departs La Ceiba at 8:55am, lands in Roatan at 9:25am, and departs Roatan at 10:10am for arrival on Grand Cayman at 12:20pm. Connecting passengers from Miami needing overnight assistance on Grand Cayman today, are being accommodated.
The Cayman Airways team appreciates the patience of the travelling public as the airline continues to put the safety of its passengers and crew as priority.
