Cayman Airways confirms that today’s New York flight KX793 from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Grand Cayman has been cancelled after a tow truck being operated by the airline’s third-party ground handling provider accidentally hit the tow bar during the connection process for push-back and caused damage to the aircraft’s nose landing gear tow fitting.

Following the incident, the aircraft was immediately taken out of service to allow for the required inspections and repairs in accordance with Cayman Airways’ stringent safety requirements.

Due to the unavailability of a recovery slot at JFK for a replacement aircraft to be sent today, Cayman Airways has arranged a recovery flight for Tuesday, 22 September 2026. Recovery arrangements are also being made against the backdrop of significant air traffic disruptions at JFK and other airports in the New York area today, where operations are already grappling with delays associated with an FAA equipment outage.

Affected passengers will automatically receive updated flight details electronically as soon as the arrangements are finalized.

Cayman Airways is assisting affected passengers in accordance with its Customer Service Plan.
