Cayman Airways confirms safe arrival of delayed JFK flight

Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) acknowledges the inconvenience experienced by passengers travelling on Flight KX793 from New York (JFK) to Grand Cayman (GCM) on Monday, 3 August 2026, following extended delays due to unforeseen aircraft mechanical issues. While the delays were an unfortunate disruption, every operational decision was made with the safety of passengers and crew as the airline’s utmost priority.

Flight KX793 was originally scheduled to depart JFK at 11:45am on Monday. However, a mechanical issue was identified onboard the aircraft, requiring it to return to the gate for inspection where it was determined that the aircraft needed to be removed from service for rectification. To help minimize the impact on our passengers and ensure same-day travel, another aircraft was dispatched from Grand Cayman to New York as soon as it was operationally possible to do so. Unfortunately, after arriving in New York and while preparing for the return flight, this aircraft also developed a separate mechanical issue. The resulting delay caused that operating crew to exceed the maximum duty time permitted under aviation safety regulations, making it necessary to cancel Monday’s flight and postpone operations until Tuesday, 4 August 2026.

During both the initial and the extended overnight delay, the Cayman Airways team at JFK assisted affected passengers as needed and provided meal vouchers throughout the day. Unfortunately, flight cancellations by other airlines contributed to hotels near the airport being full, so securing rooms nearby for all passengers wasn’t possible. However, Cayman Airways confirms that passengers impacted by this disruption will be compensated in accordance with the airline’s policies.

Passengers were ultimately accommodated on recovery flight KX3793, which departed JFK on Tuesday at 2:32pm and landed on Grand Cayman at 5:36pm. All other Cayman Airways scheduled flights operated as planned on both Monday and Tuesday.
