Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about the Miami and Nicaragua repatriation flights

 

IS CAL OFFERING REPATRIATION FLIGHTS TO THE UNITED STATES?

Yes. In partnership with the Cayman Islands Government (CIG), the following flights between Grand Cayman and Miami International Airport (MIA) will operate on Friday April 17, 2020: 

  • Flight KX3102: departs Grand Cayman at 11am, arrives in Miami at 1:30pm
  • Flight KX3113(operated by World Atlantic): departs Miami at 11am, arrives on Grand Cayman at 11:30am
  • Flight KX3114: departs Grand Cayman at 12:30pm and arrives in Miami at 3pm

WHO CAN TRAVEL TO CAYMAN ON THE FLIGHT FROM MIAMI?

Caymanians and/or Permanent Residents who are authorized by the CIG to travel inbound to the Cayman Islands, may travel on KX3113 departing Miami at 11am, arriving on Grand Cayman at 11:30am. Non-Caymanians (including work permit-holders) must contact the Government’s Travel Hotline to request permission to travel to Cayman and to book tickets, by calling 244-3333 or by emailing emergencytravel@gov.ky.  

WILL THERE BE ANY REPATRIATION FLIGHTS TO REGIONAL DESTINATIONS?

The CIG is actively working with relevant Governments in the region regarding repatriation flights based on the number of travel requests received from Cayman residents via the Government’s Travel Hotline. So far, the CIG has partnered with CAL to operate two flights to Managua, Nicaragua, on Saturday April 18, 2020:

Flight KX3070: departs Grand Cayman at 8:30am, arrives at the Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) in Managua at 9:05am (the aircraft will return to Grand Cayman at 12:50pm with no passengers on board)

Flight KX3072: departs Grand Cayman at 1:50pm, arrives in Managua at 2:25pm (the aircraft will return to Grand Cayman at 6:18pm with no passengers on board)  

WHAT ARE THE AIRFARES FOR THE REPATRIATION FLIGHTS?

AM I ALLOWED TWO FREE CHECKED BAGS FOR THESE FLIGHTS? 

Yes. All tickets (excluding infants) include two free checked bags up to 55lbs per bag (not exceeding linear dimensions of 62 inches per bag), plus one carry-on bag not exceeding 11" x 16" x 24". 

CAN I PAY TO CHECK-IN MORE THAN TWO BAGS?

No. Passengers will NOT be allowed to check in more than TWO (2) pieces of luggage

CAN I PAY FOR MY TWO BAGS TO BE OVERWEIGHT?

No. Overweight or over-sized luggage will NOT be permitted

CAN I TRAVEL WITH MY PET ON REPATRIATION FLIGHTS?

For outbound Miami flights:

  • A limited number of pets can be accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis
  • Passengers are responsible for ensuring they meet all necessary customs requirements for the importation of pets to any country. 
  • No pets will be allowed on inbound flights to Cayman

For Managua flights: 

No pets can be accommodated on those flights

WHAT TRAVEL DOCUMENTS DO I NEED?

  • Persons travelling to the United States must be US citizens or those legally able to travel to/through the USA
  • Persons travelling to Managua must be citizens of Nicaragua

Note: passengers are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary travel documents for entry into any foreign country 

HOW WILL SOCIAL DISTANCING BE MANAGED ON BOARD?

  • All middle seats will be left empty
  • No Business Class seats will be sold or assigned
  • Inflight service will be limited
  • All passengers are required to wear a face mask (covering mouth and nose) before boarding and for the duration of the flight 

WHAT IS THE BOOKING PROCESS FOR THE REPATRIATION FLIGHTS?

For outbound repatriation flights: 

  • Call the Cayman Airways Reservations call center on 345-949-2311 or 1-800-422-9626 (toll free in the USA). The Reservations Hours have been temporarily extended to 9am and 6pm weekdays
  • Only credit or debit cards will be taken over the phone for bookings
  • Passengers with existing tickets for travel to Miami will be able to use them for these repatriation flights 

For the inbound Miami flight KX3113 on Friday April 17, 2020:

  • Caymanians and/or Permanent Residents who are authorized by the CIG to travel inbound to the Cayman Islands, may call Cayman Airways Reservations on 345-949-2311 or 1-800-422-9626 (toll free in the USA) between 9am-6pm.
  • Non-Caymanians (including work permit-holders) must contact the Government’s Travel Hotline to request permission to travel to Cayman and to book tickets, by calling 244-3333 or by emailing emergencytravel@gov.ky
