Cayman Islands visitors from the West Coast, USA, will experience flying the newest jet fleet in the Caribbean when Cayman Airways’ nonstop flights from Denver, Colorado, to Grand Cayman resumes on February 26, 2022.
Carrying the dual title of also being the first Caribbean-based airline to operate the brand-new state-of-the-art Boeing 737-8 jet aircraft, Cayman Airways now offers travelers extra inflight storage space, roomier cabins, more seats in Business Class, and over 30% more seats overall than the airline’s previous jet fleet.
Cayman Airways’ Denver route is being offered in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism & Transport, and the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (DOT), and will operate through August 6, 2022.
In-keeping with the Denver market’s average vacation duration of seven days, the Denver flight schedule is relaunching with one flight per week, on Saturdays, between Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) and Denver International Airport (DEN). Flight KX440 will depart ORIA at 9am and arrive at DEN at 11:30am. On the return, flight KX441 will depart Denver at 12:50pm and arrive on Grand Cayman at 7:20pm. The schedule times change slightly between March 19, 2020 through August 6, 2022 due to the state’s Daylight Savings Time changes. See schedule graph below.
“Our nonstop service between Grand Cayman and Denver reduces the travel time to Cayman from typically between nine and eleven hours using multiple flights, to less than five hours aboard a nonstop flight operated by our brand-new state-of-the-art Boeing 737-8 aircraft, with industry-leading comfort and legroom in both our Business and Economy cabins,” said Executive Vice President of Finance and Commercial Affairs, Paul Tibbetts. “The longest scheduled commercial flight we’ve ever operated in the airline’s history is on our Denver route, which is a unique benefit Cayman Airways provides the Cayman Islands as a tourism destination, thanks to having the newest jet fleet in the Caribbean. We look forward to welcoming new and returning visitors to Cayman from the ‘Mile High City’.”
Commenting on the new service, Minister for Tourism and Transport, Hon. Kenneth Bryan noted: "Tourism is highly dependent on airlift and the resumption of the Cayman Airways service to Denver, Colorado, is integral to the recovery of our tourism industry. As we move through Phase 5 of our border reopening plan, the ability to resume established routes like Denver emphasizes the importance of our national airline, and highlights the strategic role it plays in making it easy for tourists to visit the Cayman Islands from key gateways across the USA."
Echoing those sentiments, Rosa Harris, Director of Tourism, said: "Cayman Airways’ nonstop service to Denver will make travel to the Cayman Islands more convenient for our visitors - from The Mile High City to the world-famous Seven Mile Beach in just five hours, visitors can now return to our shores on the newest jet fleet in the Caribbean aboard Cayman Airways. The Denver route was particularly popular among the diving community and provided a fast and convenient way for SCUBA enthusiasts to explore the Cayman Islands magnificent underwater world. We look forward to welcoming visitors, especially divers, back to our warm Caribbean waters for an unforgettable vacation experience."
Phil Washington, CEO of Denver International Airport, stated: "Cayman Airways is a valued airline partner and the return of Denver service is welcome news. Nonstop flights to Grand Cayman will once again provide a unique option for Denver travelers to easily access this popular Caribbean destination."
