The National Airline of the Cayman Islands, Cayman Airways, has been named “Caribbean Airline of the Year” by the Caribbean Journal, the Caribbean’s leading digital newspaper.
The announcement was made December 1, 2015 as part of Caribbean Journal’s 2015 Caribbean Travel Awards. The organization said the awards are based on the perspective of the people who travel to the Caribbean and the impact that the tourism industry has on this part of the world.
Out of the host of prestigious regional airlines, including Caribbean Airlines, LIAT, Bahamas Air and Insel Air, amongst others, Cayman Airways came out top this year, owing to its personal touches such as free rum punch aboard all international jet flights, and two free checked bags, as well as its convenient and ever-extending destinations.
The Cayman Island’s national airline prides itself on embedding the ethos of Caymankind into its service, which is reflected in achieving this award.
Cayman Airways President and CEO, Fabian Whorms, said the Caribbean Journal’s award of Cayman Airways is a delightful recognition of the tremendous effort that the airline has put into delivering consistent high quality service to travelers to and from the Cayman Islands.
“Cayman Airways plays a critical role in the economic growth of the Cayman Islands as each day we literally take the Cayman Islands and our Caymanian hospitality to the world. In so doing, our team goes to great lengths to ensure that visitors and residents alike are able to enjoy the best of what it means to be Caymankind,” he said. “We work hard so our passengers can experience true Caymankindness across their entire travel experience because, for us, it is a natural extension of the Cayman Islands’ warmth. We are honoured to receive recognition of this service and such high accolades from the Caribbean Journal.”
In addition to this accomplishment for the national airline, the publication also voted Cayman’s Moses Kirkconnell as Minister of Tourism of the Year and the Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman was named the Caribbean Hotel of the Year.
The online publication launched the awards in 2014 to honour the hotels, destinations and people who help make Caribbean travel better. The annual ‘best-of-the-best’ roundup looks at the region both from the perspective of the people who travel to the Caribbean and the impact the tourism industry has on this beautiful part of the world.
