This Summer, Cayman Airways is making it easier to visit one of the airline’s most popular destinations for Cayman residents, with daily nonstop flights to Tampa from Grand Cayman in July and August.
The airline currently offers up to five flights a week between Grand Cayman and Tampa year-round, but this year the service has been expanded to daily flights from July 1, 2016 through August 31, 2016.
“For more than 30 years Cayman Airways has been serving the Cayman/Tampa route with nonstop flights, so we’re thrilled to introduce daily flights this summer to help meet the increasing travel demand for this popular route,” said Paul Tibbetts, Executive Vice President, Finance and Commercial Affairs for Cayman Airways. “With its many theme parks as well as its close proximity to Disney World in Orlando, Tampa has always been a popular destination for Summer travel, especially for Cayman families, so we’re poised to increase this service to daily flights year-round if the demand remains consistent beyond the Summer months.”
The service expansion is also expected to benefit inbound tourism for the Cayman Islands.
“Cayman Airways, the national flag carrier, has been a strategic partner throughout the years and plays a vital role in air service to the destination,” said Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism, Moses Kirkconnell. “This move to expand to daily service to Tampa exemplifies their depended commitment to this valuable route.”
Echoing those sentiments, Mrs. Rosa Harris, Director of Tourism, said: “The expansion of Cayman Airways’ daily nonstop service from Tampa to Grand Cayman makes travelling to our beautiful Cayman Islands even more accessible for visitors this Summer. With the airlines’ now daily flight service from Tampa, guests have the flexibility to experience our destination’s unforgettable experiences and memorable attractions at their convenience this summer.”
In support of the new daily Summer service, marketing representatives from Tampa International Airport and Cayman Airways recently met on Grand Cayman to discuss and develop an extensive advertising and public relations campaign to promote the long-standing route in the Tampa market. The campaign is also being supported by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.
Tampa International Airport officials said Cayman Airways is one of the airport’s most longstanding airlines offering international nonstop flights to the destination, with service since 1986, and said the airport expects to double the number of international passengers served in 2016 when compared to 2010.
“This flight will give Tampa residents the opportunity to experience the beauty of Cayman with more convenience, while giving the residents of Cayman better access to Tampa Bay's cultural events, shopping, entertainment and attractions,” Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano said. “We provide a fast and easy international process with global entry for US citizens, as well as automated passport control kiosks that expedite the customs process. This makes Tampa a preferred airport for both residents and our guests coming from Cayman.”
