CAL’s Wednesday operations suspended ahead of Tropical Storm Grace

As Tropical Storm Grace is projected to be at, or near, hurricane strength when it reaches the Cayman area Tuesday night, Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) has suspended all operations for Wednesday August 18, 2021 for the safety of passengers, crew, fleet, and all airline employees.

The service suspension applies to all three islands, and includes Cayman Airways Cargo, Ticket Offices, and Administrative Offices. The reservations hotline is expected to maintain regular hours, 7am-7pm, with limited coverage.

Cayman Airways Express flights between Grand Cayman and the Sister Islands are all canceled for Wednesday, and CAL Reservations agents are in the process of contacting all affected passengers to rebook them for later dates.

The rescheduled Miami repatriation flight KX3102 is still expected to depart Grand Cayman at 8am Thursday August 19, 2021, arriving in Miami at 10:30am, with the return flight KX3103 still scheduled to depart Miami at 12pm to arrive on Grand Cayman at 12:30pm.

The Kingston repatriation flight KX3600 for Thursday August 19, 2021 is still expected to depart Grand Cayman at its retimed departure time of 12pm and arrive in Kingston at 1:05pm, with KX3601 departing Kingston at 2:15pm and arriving on Grand Cayman at 3:20pm.

Per The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States, the Miami-bound passengers who had already taken their PCR tests in time for Wednesday’s flight will not have to retake it to depart on Thursday at 8am since the initial departing flight is being delayed due to reasons beyond their control, and the delay is 24 hours or less past the 3-day limit for testing.

Likewise, under these circumstances, Kingston-bound passengers who received their PCR test results on Monday for travel Wednesday, will not have to retest for travel on Thursday.

Passengers whose flights have not been impacted by cancellations or schedule changes may voluntarily change their travel dates without penalty if they have existing tickets for travel between Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac or Little Cayman between Monday August 16, 2021 and Thursday August 19, 2021. No change fees apply to repatriation flights. Any applicable fare difference will apply.

All operations are expected to resume fully on Thursday August 19, 2021, pending weather conditions.

Customers can call Cayman Airways Reservations on 345-949-2311 for assistance with their reservations during the noted operational hours.
