Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) has announced a significant expansion of its nonstop service between Grand Cayman (GCM) and Austin, Texas (AUS), following the strong performance of the route's inaugural summer season, which concludes on 16 August 2026.
Originally launched in 2026 as a seasonal summer service, the Austin route has exceeded expectations, generating strong demand from both visitors and Cayman residents travelling between the Cayman Islands and Central Texas. Building on that success, Cayman Airways will now operate the Austin service from 20 December 2026 through 29 August 2027, extending the route beyond the traditional summer season to include the winter travel season, spring break and other popular travel periods.
To accommodate continued demand during the busy summer travel season, the airline will also introduce a second weekly flight, operating on Wednesdays from 26 May through 11 August 2027, providing customers with greater flexibility and additional capacity during one of the route's strongest periods.
“When we launched Austin, we saw the potential to connect the Cayman Islands with one of the fastest-growing regions in the United States,” said Fabian Whorms, President and CEO of Cayman Airways. “The market has responded exceptionally well, and this expansion reflects our commitment to developing routes where we see sustainable demand and long-term opportunity. By extending the season and introducing a second weekly flight, we are responding directly to customer demand while strengthening connectivity between the Cayman Islands and an important U.S. market. As the national airline, we remain focused on delivering reliable air service that supports our customers, our tourism industry and the continued development of the Cayman Islands.”
Hon. Gary Rutty, Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism & Trade Development, welcomed the announcement, highlighting the important role that Cayman Airways plays in supporting the Cayman Islands, stating: "The expansion of Austin service is excellent news for the Cayman Islands, particularly our tourism industry, and further demonstrates the importance of maintaining strong, strategic air connectivity with key North American markets. Austin has quickly established itself as an important addition to the airline’s route network, and extending the service will allow us to welcome even more visitors from this growing market. This is another example of what can be achieved through the close partnership between the Ministry of Tourism, the Department of Tourism and Cayman Airways, as we continue to strengthen the Cayman Islands’ position as a premier destination in the Caribbean."
During the upcoming winter season, flights from Austin will depart at 11:45am (12:45 p.m. during Daylight Saving Time) and arrive in Grand Cayman at 3:45pm. Flights from Grand Cayman will depart at 8:15am and arrive in Austin at 10:15am. (11:15am during Daylight Saving Time).
