Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, March 2024: Cayman Airways has elevated the travel experience of its passengers with the addition of state-of-the-art USB charging outlets now available for all seats aboard the airline’s B737-8 fleet. As Cayman Airways reaches further afar than ever before, passengers will be thrilled to be able to keep their devices charged and able to take full advantage of the onboard streaming entertainment, including new release movies, no matter how long their flight.
Completed in October 2023, the installation of the charging outlets in economy, which feature both USB-C and USB-A connections, allow Economy Class passengers to enjoy similar charging options that have always been available in the fleet’s Business Class cabin.
“Cayman Airways is dedicated to delivering an exceptional customer experience, and these new USB charging outlets are just one example of how the airline is fulfilling that promise,” said Paul Tibbetts, Executive Vice President of Commercial Affairs and Chief Financial Officer. “With our Sir Turtle Entertainment inflight system already providing free premium streaming content to passengers’ devices, this latest feature ensures that everyone can enjoy our in-flight entertainment services to the fullest and still arrive at their destination with fully charged devices.”
Mr. Tibbetts said that, as Cayman Airways expands its long-haul flight offerings, it's crucial that passengers can rely on the airline to continue to provide a quality flight experience. “The new USB charging outlets are a testament to Cayman Airways' unwavering dedication to enriching the experience for our customers,” he noted. “Flying with Cayman Airways has never been more enjoyable, and our team here at Cayman Airways can't wait for our passengers to experience this latest enhancement for themselves.”
Mr. Tibbetts explained that the introduction of USB charging ports to all seats aboard the airline’s B737-8 jet fleet was achieved through a collaborative effort between the Cayman Airways Maintenance and Engineering Department, the Supplemental Type Certificate Holder (STC), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI), and CAL’s two approved Maintenance Repair Organisations (MRO’s). Once the necessary approvals were in place, CAL’s Maintenance team worked with the MRO’s to execute the upgrade professionally with minimal disruption.
“As an airline, we pride ourselves in our commitment to excellence and the careful selection and installation of these USB charging ports now give our passengers one more reason to see why those who fly us love us,” he said.
