Cayman Airways promotes Caymanian linguistic heritage with new inflight napkins

June 26, 2025

Passengers onboard Cayman Airways Limited (CAL) international flights can expect to learn and hear a little more Caymanian vernacular on their next trip. The airline has just introduced its latest inflight enhancement – custom “Speak like a Caymanian” napkins featuring select authentic Caymanian sayings and phrases.

Developed with the support of the author of “The Cayman Islands Dictionary”, these napkins are designed to give passengers a fun and memorable introduction to the unique linguistic heritage of the Cayman Islands.

Each napkin showcases a familiar Caymanian phrase, its pronunciation, and an example of how it’s used, such as the Caymanian term “Ereckleh” (eh-reck-leh), an adverb meaning “soon come” or “coming soon”, and the term “Galavantin’” (gal-a-vahn-tin), a verb meaning “exploring joyfully in search of fun or excitement”. These fun, custom napkins inspire curiosity and spark conversation, giving visitors and residents alike a genuine taste of Caymanian identity at 30,000 feet.

Paul Tibbetts, Executive Vice President Commercial Affairs and Chief Financial Officer of Cayman Airways, explained that the “Speak like a Caymanian” napkins were part of the airline’s broader “Uniquely Caymanian” initiative aimed at celebrating Caymanian heritage through thoughtful touches that enrich the overall travel experience with Cayman Airways.  From locally crafted products like the new Sir Turtle’s Sky Brew craft beer and the airline’s famous complimentary Seven Fathoms Rum Punch, to now incorporating the vibrant Caymanian language on inflight napkins, he explained that Cayman Airways remains dedicated to delivering a truly Caymanian experience for every passenger.

“This latest addition to our inflight service is a small but meaningful way to further infuse the richness of our Caymanian culture into the travel experience,” Mr. Tibbetts said.  “We are proud to be Caymanian, and we take great pride in showcasing the warmth, hospitality and craftsmanship that make the Cayman Islands so special. Our passengers deserve an experience that reflects the heart of our people and that’s what we aim to deliver, every time they fly with us.”

The new napkin series underscores Cayman Airways’ ongoing commitment to promoting local culture, celebrating community partnerships, and offering an inflight experience that is, at its core, Uniquely Caymanian.
