USA issues passport compliance update for British passport holders

British passport-holders who travel to and from the United States utilizing the Visa Waiver Program, are being advised that US Customs and Border Protection now requires them to have an e-passport as of April 1, 2016.

According to an advisory on the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) website, an e-passport is denoted by a special symbol on the passport cover. It is an enhanced secure passport with an embedded electronic chip. E-passports are issued by the proper passport issuing authority and must meet international standards for securing and storing information corresponding to the passport and bearer.

Emergency exceptions will still be handled by the US Embassy or by the Miami Regional CBP Office Duty Officer.

Persons travelling with Cayman Islands passports will not be affected because Cayman Islands passports are exempt under this new rule.

While this new passport requirement by US Customs and Border Protection affects all countries utilizing the Visa Waiver Program, Cayman Airways is reminding customers that they must do the necessary research to ensure that they meet all applicable requirements for travel documents prior to booking or checking-in for flights.
